Good morning!!! *ahem* I am out for breakfast with Mr. Mike, and today we are trying a couple of the new specials at Denny's. For me, their new gouda and broccoli skillet, with mushrooms, chicken and rice on a hot cast iron -- such gorgeous presentation! He has their honey jalapeño bacon burger! I'm not sure what possessed me to get this skillet -- I guess gouda and mushrooms just sounded like a good idea at the time -- but it was kind of... ehh. It had a little spice to it, but I think mushrooms are just one of those things that sound like a great idea, and then I eat it and I'm not sure why I ordered this thing. His burger, on the other hand, was REALLY tasty. The honey was a nice sweet pairing with the spice of the peppers and their barbecue sauce, and then you get that applewood smoked bacon with a bit of crunch and salt, and I think there was some gorgeous caramelizing action going on in there. I kind of wanted to steal his and eat it for him, but he wasn't that generous. Alas.
So... Jo and I used to come here a lot for boba, but we only ate here the once, with her mother. We got some pad thai and a hot pot, and the food here is REALLY good. Things have been really rough for me lately, and I had a friend seeking someone with an adventurous palate to partake in some pho today, and I happily offered my services. She was a friend I didn't know very well, so it was good to get to know her a little better, and also get out of the house a bit. It was AMAZING, ps. Mmf. Look at that beautiful broth!
Emphasis on 'makeshift'. Of the lovelies, Mr. Dale is of Hawaiian descent, so I thought I'd make him a little something as we were investigating the pantry for dinner options. Some pork chops diced up and cooked with pineapple and barbecue sauce, which we then served over white rice. A little green beans on the side, something simple but fun to stir things up a bit.
