In case you didn't know, I'm a bit of a big fan of Monster Energy, seeing as it's one of the energy things I imbibe best (the ginseng extract helps with my brain, honestly), and I partake of their classic green now and again when the depression is making it hard to work, or I otherwise have need to stay up late. So when I saw this, I had to try it, and it's quite good! It reminds me quite a bit of a Mountain Dew, with that signature Monster kick. And not a terrible price, either. I would pick up a few of them now and again, no question.

Ahhh pizza. I love pizza. You can't go wrong with pizza. I don't have a lot of money to be ordering in much, so I'm a big fan of frozen pies I can take home and bake up when I'm having a low energy, mental health day. This one had a nice, fluffy crust, good amount of toppings... My biggest thing was making sure the pepperoni is spread evenly, but that's the kind of thing to poke at while it's frozen when you put it into the oven. I like this one -- it was cheap, filling, and satisfied the need juuuuust fine. And it was only $4!!!
I'm not even going to lie to you and call this a 'home experiment', because it is pretty straight forward buffalo chicken. The star here is Frank's Red Hot buffalo sauce, which is a gorram phenomenon out here in Tucson. Like, it's freaking everywhere.
As you know, Cookie s a huge ice cream nut, and we decided to try this Breyer's gelato while they were on sale, because mmmmm... Gelato.
I'm sure there's a brand name there, but my Japanese isn't THAT good. So, furikake (not to be confused with the other popular -ukake that I know you're thinking of, you pervert) is a 'rice condiment', which might sound weird to an American who doesn't eat that much rice, but to a culture that generally treats everything to a side of white rice, it's like not having ketchup for your fries. Furikake is usually dried seaweed or flavouring as a kind of 'seasoning' which you can mix in with your rice (or just toss on top) to make finishing off that last bit of white a pleasure, or A MIDNIGHT SNACK, like I do. This is salmon furikake, made with dried salmon, seaweed, and a few other spices, AND IT IS AMAZING. I picked up some salmon because salmon is one of Cookie's most favourite things, and sold her on this pretty darned quick. If you are of the Japanese bento box persuasion, eat a lot of Chinese take out, or are generally trying to find a healthier snack, consider some white rice and a bit of furikake for an interesting change of pace.
Tea and biscuits is always a wonderful diversion. Today we picked up some Teavana from the mall, and some MARIA cookies as biscuits, a piece of crochet and cranberry juice as a cold counterpoint as we sit for another holiday movie marathon.
This is one of our favourites. It's a dark red, bit on the dry end. But it has a wonderful kick to it. Perfect for a dessert wine, and usually fairly inexpensive -- typically $10 or $12, although a little hard to find.
Now, you know I love my wife. But... As much as I say she's perfect, she has flaws. A love of Twilight and boy bands, among other things, but she has a particularly annoying habit of being picky about her pizza. Alas, I cannot afford to spend $40 anytime one of us has a craving for pizza (and the new Pizza Hut flavors are right out), nor do I want to endure the queasiness that Little Caesar's usually brings us. So I've been trying to compromise with her by having frozen pizza on hand for these cravings, but she's been so against it! It's a trick finding a pizza she likes, so we've been experimenting. Today, we're trying the rather tasty-sounding Bon Appetit: Pesto & Pepperoni. (Picture not mine)
