I just got my tax return, and I am ready to celebrate. What better way to do that than a bit of SUSHI? I'm even cracking out some sake tonight! ARE YOU READY TO BE JEALOUS?

Tucson is home to a LOT of Mexican food of many shapes and sizes and varieties, and yet one of our favourites is Macayo's. Boasting the invention of the chimichanga, this chain has been around since 1946, and has branches throughout Arizona, and even as far out as Vegas.
I love Macayo's. IT has the kind of colourful flair and vibrant fiesta feeling I think of when I think of a good Mexican restaurant. And the cut out of the Dos Equis guy is just fun. They have some outrageous souvenir margarita glasses you can collect, and if you bring them back, discounted margaritas! If margaritas were more my thing, I would take them up on it, just because that's so darned fun. I've also noticed that the decor tends to change fairly frequently, so you can amuse yourself by looking to see what's changed. Today, we decided to steer away from our usual chimichangas and try something new. She tried the chalupas especiales they had on special, and I had the chicken poblano. I just love stuffed peppers at Mexican restaurants, it's one of my favourites. That and shrimp yolanda, but that's a tricky one to find. As usual, Macayo's did not disappoint! They're a staple for us for a very good reason. This is the face of a man who has no idea what he's doing... Today is the first day of Lent, and we barely remembered to hit a church for some ashes, and to pretend like we totally planned it, we're going to rejoice in the coming challenge of Lent dietary requirements by going to one of the few reliable places in town for seafood: Red Lobster. Just run with it, okay?
So, I'm on my way out at godawful-early in the morning ON A SATURDAY, no less, so we decided to hit Taco Bell for some breakfast on the way out, since they've got a new breakfast menu, and HOLY CRAP, WE'VE HIT A JACKPOT.
Biscuits and gravy crunch wrap. Sausage, gravy, hashbrowns, wrapped in a crunchwrap, and it is decadent. Like, my new favourite thing, for sure. They also have what I like to call a "Cali style" one, with avocado, tomatoes and an egg scramble. Got dem, dis tasty! You guys gotta try one of these! |
