Today I was feeling like ENGLISH BREAKFAST. I know it's missing a few things (tomatoes, black pudding, crumpets...), but I just LOVE having brats for my bangers, and it's not always a luxury I can afford.

If there's one thing you know Cookie loves, it's taters, precious. Today, she wanted to try a riff on the traditional shepherd's pie -- usually, mashed potatoes with meat and veggies on top, in lieu of gravy, a hearty peasant dish. But today, she decided to mix it up a bit. She baked them soft, hollowed them out a bit, stuffed the potatoes with meat and veggies, then topped it with mashed potatoes. This was... an interesting experiment, the meat was well seasoned, mixed with diced onions, mixed veggies (peas, carrots, corn and green beans), salt and pepper, etc. The taste was glorious, and the plating delightfully pretentious, but admittedly, it's a rather troublesome recipe to put together. If you're trying to impress someone, go for it! But it did feel a bit silly.
For an added bonus, we had some fried potato skins as a chef's snack, a little shredded pepper jack cheese and bacon bits. This is a quick cheat, nuked in the microwave for a munchable while that tasty meat is still cooking, or else we'll keep picking at it. Chef's snacks are important! I have a suspicion this was the real reason for the strange presentation, to be honest. #ShitCookieDoes Ah, Kappy's. A local favourite, Kappy's is a pub/sports bar type place down on Wilmot/Grant. Joanne is an old family friend of the owners and has some embarassing graduation day memories there, but one of the things WE love about Kappy's is their AYCE fish fry on Fridays! This is especially a big deal for Lent, when eating fish for meats on Fridays is totally a thing.
