Don't let a rainy days and Mondays get you down! In the mood for something sweet, we found these tasties... Somewhere. The picture is in my film roll without a label and there's no Insta feed with it, SO IT'S A TASTY!!! It looks like ice cream with a strawberry swirl, with lots of fresh berries inbetween. I'm always a sucker for strawberries, myself, so I just know I couldn't pass it up, wherever we found them.

FOOD. Trying not to cry because this is the last of my tortillas. Homemade quesadillas made with buttered tortillas, shredded three-cheese blend, and diced onions. Again, a simple dish that's warm and hearty and filling and HOT, perfect for a chill spring evening. Great to have with a spot of medium salsa, simple and cheap. Makes you feel accomplished while you're actually having a glorified grilled cheese sammich for dinner. BUT SOUTHWEST.
One thing I've really bought into here in the southwest, is the CUISINE. Sonoran dogs are a bit beyond me with my kitchen atm (BUT OH GOD HOW I ADORE THEM), but the simple treat of a well-toasted, crispy and gooey quesadilla in the toaster oven is just... EURGH. It's one of those little things that just make you feel all happy on the inside. I love it! It's legit one of my favorite dinners to make. AND LOOK AT THAT GORGEOUS CRUST. You know you want to steal a slice. These are made with the mexican cheese blend and a little onion, then served with salsa on the side. It's honestly a really cheap, fairly filling, and not even necessarily too bad for you meal!
...And speaking of dangerous. I now work at a Blaze Pizza, which is a to-order artisan pizza joint -- think like Subway, but with pizza! This is a dangerous place to work as a foodie. This monstrosity is mozzarella and ricotta, chicken, jalapenos, onions, banana peppers, bacon, and a drizzle of barbecue sauce on top. And there's a donut shop next door? I'm in trouble, y'all. There's a nice crispy crust on these, and you really can put almost anything on top (almost -- we don't carry anchovies) and there's a whopping EIGHT KINDS OF CHEESE. Which includes vegan cheese, if you qualify that as cheese.
(For the record, I don't, but I know that some of you appreciate that kind of thing.) So it's easy to make a vegetarian, or even vegan pizza, and we also offer a gluten free crust, if that's a concern. Pretty tasty concept! And it was designed by the Wetzels of Wetzels Pretzels, just so you know. In case you care. I know, my lighting is crap. Was at the "Drink & Draw" Wednesday at the R Bar with Constant Con tonight (WHAT A MOUTHFUL... Basically, geeks and nerds coloring in downtown Tucson) and figured I'd get some late night noms on my way home. The Shot In the Dark is a local favorite, particularly for late night munchies downtown -- Frank gets sammie from here all the time, so I'd been meaning to try it.
Today I got a grilled peanut butter and jelly sammy (Jo turned me on to toasted PB&J, so I was curious about this variation) with some added banana slices, and a bag of jalapeño chips for a side. I will say, the richness of warmed PB&J was very rich, very decadent, the bananas doing a bit of a banana fosters thing in there. Honestly, I should have had a glass of milk with this, it was very heavy on the tongue, but not at ALL in a bad way. If you want an indulgence of your childhood for some post-pub crawl midnight munchie goodness, this is really a wonderful call to make. 530% recommended!
Today, I splurged a little bit and went to Sweet Tomatoes, which is a buffet-style restaurant (not unlike Ryan's or Golden Corral) but it favors a salad bar (and I do mean a VERY long bar full of various kinds of salads) and a hot bar, with pasta and soups and potatoes.
Tonight, Cookie and I are trying the World of Beer, which is located in Downtown Tucson, right on Congress next to the Rialto and Hotel Congress, really nice spot! I've been hearing a lot of good things about this place, so I was really excited to give them a taste. And you know how I love pubs.
Fro-yo is a wonderful thing, and one of our usual mall-crawling favorites. Mine has lots of chocolate and strawberries, because that's just how I roll. Cookie's has gummy bears and fruity pebbles and almond slivers and ALL THE THINGS!!! You can make your fro-yo however you like! How do you like your fro-yo?! Comment below! This is the face of a man who has no idea what he's doing... Today is the first day of Lent, and we barely remembered to hit a church for some ashes, and to pretend like we totally planned it, we're going to rejoice in the coming challenge of Lent dietary requirements by going to one of the few reliable places in town for seafood: Red Lobster. Just run with it, okay?
If there's one thing that the Southwest has down pat, it's Mexican food. In this town, there are as many Mexican restaurants of any variety as there are coffee shops in Seattle. Spicy? Mild? Fast food? Sit down? Food truck? Anyway you want it, there's someone out there that has just what you need. It's been a delightful challenge to try them all out and find my favourite, but if you like rustic, sit down, I'm-definitely-taking-half-of-this-home Mexican food, La Parilla Suiza is definitely one you should try.
