If you haven't tried this new Brewhouse Burger at Jack In the Box, you need to. A little Worcestershire Sauce, a lotta beer cheese, lettuce, tomato, grilled onions... It shouldn't be fast food. That punch of tomato, that creamy cheese, that fantastic new bun... It's just a mouthful of happy. It's buttery and delicious and DOES legitimately make me want a beer. You know that I'm a sucker for beer cheese, guys. If you haven't tried this yet, you really should.

Ahhh pizza. I love pizza. You can't go wrong with pizza. I don't have a lot of money to be ordering in much, so I'm a big fan of frozen pies I can take home and bake up when I'm having a low energy, mental health day. This one had a nice, fluffy crust, good amount of toppings... My biggest thing was making sure the pepperoni is spread evenly, but that's the kind of thing to poke at while it's frozen when you put it into the oven. I like this one -- it was cheap, filling, and satisfied the need juuuuust fine. And it was only $4!!!
I'm not even going to lie to you and call this a 'home experiment', because it is pretty straight forward buffalo chicken. The star here is Frank's Red Hot buffalo sauce, which is a gorram phenomenon out here in Tucson. Like, it's freaking everywhere.
Growing up, we ate spaghetti A LOT. Like, the red sauce I put in all my pasta is forever engrained in my brain as "spaghetti sauce", even though I've tried to teach it the new trick of "red gravy" to limited success. Even when my dad put it in manicotti, lasagna, what have you, it was always spaghetti sauce. The only other big pasta dish I had was my godmother's goulasch, which she made exclusively with macaroni, and I always make it the same way she did.
Velveeta "shells" with cheese was something introduced to me by a room mate. And when I finally started buying groceries for myself... I wondered at why fun bowtie noodles (as I'd always called them as a kid) and corkscrews were so neglected. Especially when they were the same price! What was the point between angel hair and spaghetti? Were lasagna noodles just for casseroles? Feeling adventurous and rebellious (and really, they're the same price! You aren't going out of your way or anything) I started buying farfalle and rotini (especially when they had the multicoloured ones) for my own sport and amusement. There's nothing quite so fun as being at the end of a paycheck and dropping the last bits of three different kinds of pasta into a bowl. Long snakes of spaghetti dancing with a vegetable garden of rotini and the happy bowtie of farfalle... You forget how sad you are that you're broke and have more fun with your dinner than is absolutely necessary. But that smile is wonderful. What about you? What's your favourite kind of pasta? Can I challenge you to buy an odd noodle next time you go grocery shopping? And don't limit yourself to Italian pastas, either! Get some egg noodles or pancit or rice noodles from the Asian aisle! Discover the joys of udon at your local Japanese restaurant, or try pho for the first time. You'll thank me later! Today I'm going to go for a little Asian twist. Concept is Chicken Teriykai! Let's see how well we manage it!
Today, I splurged a little bit and went to Sweet Tomatoes, which is a buffet-style restaurant (not unlike Ryan's or Golden Corral) but it favors a salad bar (and I do mean a VERY long bar full of various kinds of salads) and a hot bar, with pasta and soups and potatoes.
Today I'm trying Shock Top's Lemon Shandy (a seasonal brew), on the side on its own, and in a lemon pepper-style chicken roast.
Hey, guys. I'm sorry I haven't been on much. I do intend to go back and post backlogs of recipes and things, but... Well, it's been a tough time lately.
As of February, Mrs. Gold has decided she doesn't want to be Mrs. Gold anymore, and has been seeing someone else. It's been a very long, painful divorce, and she's moved out a few weeks ago. It's been three years, and I'm in a lot of pain, but I'm doing my best to move on. I'm at present debating if I need to rename the website to "Brunch With Mr. Gold" instead of the Golds, but I haven't made a decision yet. Perhaps I'll keep it this way for now and update to BWMG when I finally get a domain name. I don't know. In the meantime, I am going to try and get caught up with my posts, and bring you guys more recipes. Tonight I'm experimenting with a new beer, so I hope you'll like it. Pray for me. I love you guys.
