And fantastic or not, pizza is pizza! Can't complain. Especially when I wasn't paying for it, hehehe.
Mmm... Pizza. We spent the day at the Tremont Arts & Cultural Festival in Lincoln Park -- my roomie's boyfriend is part of a local commedia dell'arte troupe, and they were doing a few performances as part of the festival, and it was a lot of fun! We ended up having dinner after at Rascal House as a collective party, and it's... Well, it's not exactly impressive. It reminds me of Pizza Hut's pan pizza, a fairly economical, easy-to-acquire pizza house that is decent enough, especially when fresh. Service was slow, actually, but not terrible. And it came out fresh and hot, and after a day at the park where I was pretty damned hungry, it definitely did the job, but cheap pizza is still cheap pizza.

...And speaking of dangerous. I now work at a Blaze Pizza, which is a to-order artisan pizza joint -- think like Subway, but with pizza! This is a dangerous place to work as a foodie. This monstrosity is mozzarella and ricotta, chicken, jalapenos, onions, banana peppers, bacon, and a drizzle of barbecue sauce on top. And there's a donut shop next door? I'm in trouble, y'all. There's a nice crispy crust on these, and you really can put almost anything on top (almost -- we don't carry anchovies) and there's a whopping EIGHT KINDS OF CHEESE. Which includes vegan cheese, if you qualify that as cheese.
(For the record, I don't, but I know that some of you appreciate that kind of thing.) So it's easy to make a vegetarian, or even vegan pizza, and we also offer a gluten free crust, if that's a concern. Pretty tasty concept! And it was designed by the Wetzels of Wetzels Pretzels, just so you know. In case you care. Ahhh pizza. I love pizza. You can't go wrong with pizza. I don't have a lot of money to be ordering in much, so I'm a big fan of frozen pies I can take home and bake up when I'm having a low energy, mental health day. This one had a nice, fluffy crust, good amount of toppings... My biggest thing was making sure the pepperoni is spread evenly, but that's the kind of thing to poke at while it's frozen when you put it into the oven. I like this one -- it was cheap, filling, and satisfied the need juuuuust fine. And it was only $4!!!
I eat my feelings, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. ESPECIALLY when my idea of comfort food is a slice of the absolutely wonderful Empire's supreme pizza. A New York style pizzeria right on Congress in downtown Tucson, the lunch combo is a good, cheap snack, and I take any excuse I can to take advantage of it. They have a rotation of daily specials that always keep things interesting, but I have yet to have a bad slice of pie from this place. And, to be frank, the hole-in-the-wall bar in the back is one of my favourite perches in downtown. You get a chance to check them out, please do! I have yet to be disappointed, but be ready to wait. It's worth it.
Now, you know I love my wife. But... As much as I say she's perfect, she has flaws. A love of Twilight and boy bands, among other things, but she has a particularly annoying habit of being picky about her pizza. Alas, I cannot afford to spend $40 anytime one of us has a craving for pizza (and the new Pizza Hut flavors are right out), nor do I want to endure the queasiness that Little Caesar's usually brings us. So I've been trying to compromise with her by having frozen pizza on hand for these cravings, but she's been so against it! It's a trick finding a pizza she likes, so we've been experimenting. Today, we're trying the rather tasty-sounding Bon Appetit: Pesto & Pepperoni. (Picture not mine)
